About this experience
About Our summer camp pursues an holistic approach, from the recreational point of view, but also educational and in a closely relationship to the environment, the responsibility, self confidence, creativity and our connection in space and our ancestors. Among the activities that comprise this approach, is the learning and relationship with the rock as a resource through the Introductory Rock Climbing Workshop, in which we cover the study of climbing gear, how it works, how to rock climb, how to rest while climbing, how to lower, climbing commands and safety checks. We incorporate the understanding of the rocky landscape as the best classroom to learn about geology in the Geology of Puerto Rico Workshop, where we cover the types of rocks, minerals and fossils. Additionally, participants will have the unique opportunity to visit an area where archaeological material has been found and they can be immersed in a theme that connects them with our past and cultural roots through walks and cassava bread making in the Puerto Rico Ancestors Workshop. They will also learn safety aspects in nature as well as identification of karstic fauna and flora and many other things. In the Top Rope Belay Workshop we teach, to those who meet the requirements, how to manage the rope when another person is climbing. This is a skill they learn closely with the rock climbing instructors and is always supervised and assisted. The requirements for this workshop are: Participants must have participated in any of the Roca Norte Summer Camps in the past OR enrolled in the service Climbing Training. There should be a genuine interest in learning how to top rope belay. Those who are not interested can do another activities. Be respectful with participants and staff. Complete the 4 hour Top Rope Belay Workshop including also to successfully complete a written and practical exam.
