Current Off-Grid Living Conditions at Earthship Puerto Rico A Real Off-Grid Experience Earthship Puerto Rico is currently operating through an active rebuilding and solar recovery phase. Guests staying with us are part of a living, working sustainability project — not a traditional resort experience. At this time, our main solar power system is limited while upgrades and repairs are underway. Because of this, guests should expect a simplified off-grid environment focused on sustainability, adaptability, and community living. For many visitors, this becomes one of the most memorable parts of the experience: disconnecting from constant consumption and reconnecting with nature, slower living, and the realities of resilient off-grid systems in the Caribbean. ⸻ What’s Still Fully Functioning While the primary solar electrical system is currently being restored, many of the core Earthship systems and principles are still actively functioning and visible throughout the property. Guests can still experience: • Passive solar design • Natural airflow and ventilation • Thermal mass temperature regulation • Rainwater catchment concepts • Sustainable building techniques • Food-growing systems and regenerative landscaping • Low-impact off-grid living practices • Recycled and natural building materials integrated into the structures The property continues to operate as an educational example of resilient and sustainable living, even during infrastructure upgrades. ⸻ Navigating the Property at Night Although electrical usage is currently limited, the property is still safely navigable after sunset. Small solar-powered pathway lights are placed throughout the grounds to help illuminate: • Walkways • Common areas • Dome entrances • Gathering spaces Combined with portable work lights and ambient lighting, guests are still able to comfortably move around the property during the evening hours. One of the unexpected benefits of the lower-light environment is the peaceful nighttime atmosphere and reduced light pollution, allowing guests to better experience the sounds of nature and the night sky. ⸻ Electricity & Power Power availability is currently limited and managed carefully throughout the property. Guests may experience: • Reduced electrical usage • Limited outlet availability • Scheduled charging opportunities • Lower lighting levels at night • Intermittent power depending on weather and solar conditions This is temporary while the solar infrastructure is being restored and expanded. ⸻ What We Provide During Your Stay Work Lights & Dome Lighting Each dome/stay area is equipped with portable rechargeable work lights and supplemental lighting solutions to maintain visibility and comfort after sunset. These lights are: • Bright enough for reading and relaxing • Rechargeable • Portable around the space • Used to create a calm nighttime atmosphere ⸻ Battery-Powered Fans Puerto Rico’s climate can remain warm and humid, especially overnight. To help guests stay comfortable, we provide rechargeable battery-powered fans in guest spaces whenever possible. Customers will receive a full refund or credit with 24 hours notice of cancellation.
