Itinerary

Ponce We begin our journey in the elegant city of Ponce, celebrated for its striking neoclassical architecture and colonial charm. Stroll through the heart of the city at Plaza Las Delicias, snapshot the iconic red-and-black Parque de Bombas firehouse museum, and wander down the romantic Callejón del Amor. Your historian guide will bring the art deco details and rich aristocratic history of Puerto Rico’s second-largest city to life. Yauco Next, we head into the hills to experience Yaucromatic, a massive urban art project that transformed an entire mountainside community into a breathtaking, open-air art gallery. Walk the vibrant, rainbow-colored streets, view the famous crochet-covered tree, and visit Plaza Pablo El Negro while learning how local grassroots creativity revitalized this beautiful town. La Parguera Natural Reserve In the afternoon, we hit the southwest coast at La Parguera, a pristine fishing village in Lajas. Board your private boat charter and cruise out across turquoise waters to one of the dreamy, mangrove-lined sandbar where locals float, relax, and listen to music in waist-deep water. We'll toast to a spectacular Caribbean sunset right from the deck of the boat. Swim in the Bioluminescent Bay As darkness falls, experience pure magic. Dive into the world-famous bioluminescent bay, where millions of microscopic organisms light up with neon blue light at your touch. Swimming is fully optional—if you prefer to stay dry, you can watch the water glow beautifully right from the safety of the boat. Note this is a natural phenomenon, it is affected by rain, light, and currents.

We are fully equipped for families and provide specialized kid-sized life vests for the boat charter and bioluminescent bay swim. Life jackets must be worn by children at all times while aboard the vessel. Swimming Capabilities: The night swim takes place in open, deep water. Parents should use their best discretion regarding their child's comfort level in the water at night. Children are also perfectly welcome to stay dry and enjoy the glowing magic directly from the safety of the boat. Activity Pace: This is a comprehensive 10-to-12-hour day trip. Please ensure your children are prepared for a full day of travel. You are welcome to bring specialized snacks, electronics, or comfort items to keep them happy along the journey. Restrictions Safety Restrictions & Physical Requirements Pregnant Guests Pregnant women are permitted to join this tour, but they must use their best discretion and consult their physician prior to booking. Please be aware that this tour involves long periods of vehicle transit, walking over uneven historic city streets, and a boat ride that may encounter occasional choppy waters or sudden movements. Sofrito Tours, LLC accepts no liability for any complications arising during pregnancy as a result of participating in this excursion. Guests with Wheelchairs & Mobility Issues Accessibility Limitations: Due to the historic nature of the walking stops and the physical design of the private boat charter, this tour is not fully wheelchair accessible. Guests with limited mobility, walkers, or folding wheelchairs are welcome, but must be accompanied by at least one able-bodied companion who can personally assist them with boarding/disembarking the transport vehicles, getting on and off the boat, and entering/exiting the water for the swim. Our tour guides and boat captains are legally and physically unable to lift or physically transport guests. Swimming Ability: Participants wishing to enter the water at Cayo Caracoles or the Bioluminescent Bay must possess basic swimming skills. While life vests are provided and mandatory, the night swim takes place in open, deep water. If you cannot swim, you are required to remain safely on the boat. Motion Sickness: Guests prone to motion sickness or seasickness are strongly advised to take appropriate over-the-counter medication (like Dramamine) at least one hour before the tour begins. Sofrito Tours, LLC and its staff cannot, under any circumstances, supply or administer any form of medication to guests (including over-the-counter motion sickness pills, painkillers, or allergy medication) due to legal and medical liability regulations. ⚖️ Weight Limits on the Boat: To comply with Coast Guard safety regulations and boat capacity limits, all guests must be able to safely board the vessel. If any individual in your party exceeds 275 lbs, please contact us prior to booking so we can ensure proper seating and vessel balance. Vessel Safety & Group Seating (Boat Logistics) No Individual Weight Restrictions: We have no individual weight restrictions for this experience, and all guests are welcome! Coast Guard Safety & Balancing: To comply with strict U.S. Coast Guard safety regulations and ensure a smooth, stable ride, our captains balance the vessel's total weight distribution. Large Groups Notice: Because we must balance the weight across our fleet, larger groups may be split into two or more separate boats for the water portion of the tour. Please rest assured that our boats travel, anchor, and swim together, meaning your entire party will be right next to each other in the water at all times! Disclaimers Tropical Weather & "Rain or Shine" Policy Puerto Rico is a tropical island, and passing rain showers are completely normal and frequent. Tours will not be canceled, rescheduled, or refunded due to rain, overcast skies, or typical tropical weather. The only person who can cancel the water portion of this tour is the boat captain, based on strict U.S. Coast Guard safety parameters (such as severe lightning, high swells, or official tropical storm warnings). Unless the captain officially cancels the trip due to unsafe conditions, the tour goes out as scheduled. Electronics & Personal Property Liability Expect to Get Wet: Because this tour involves a boat charter, a sandbar visit, and open-water swimming, there is a high probability that items on the boat will get sprayed or wet. Guests are 100% responsible for their own personal belongings, phones, cameras, and electronics. Sofrito Tours, LLC, its staff, and its boat captains accept absolute zero liability for any electronics or personal property that are lost, dropped in the ocean, damaged, or ruined by water or rain. In the event of heavy rain or heavy sea spray, we do provide designated dry storage compartments on the boat. However, utilizing this storage is at your own risk, and you are highly encouraged to bring your own waterproof dry bags or phone pouches for maximum protection. **Bioluminescence Visibility Disclaimer (Nature is Unpredictable) ** The bioluminescent bay is a delicate, 100% natural ecosystem. The brightness and visibility of the glow vary daily based on uncontrollable natural factors, including the moon phase (brighter moons make the glow harder to see), recent heavy rainfall, water temperatures, and tidal currents. Sofrito Tours, LLC does not control and cannot guarantee the intensity of the bioluminescence on any given night. No partial or full refunds, credits, or discounts will be issued if the glow is faint or below personal expectations. Wildlife & Marine Life Disclaimer Cayo Caracoles and La Parguera are open, protected natural ocean habitats. While swimming, you may encounter local marine life, including fish, mangrove root crabs, sea urchins, and occasional jellyfish. Entering the water is entirely voluntary and at your own risk. Strict Eco-Protection Policy (Zero Tolerance): The marine ecosystem and the surrounding mangrove forests are heavily protected by local and federal laws. Any guest observed mistreating, grabbing, stepping on, or pulling at the mangroves, or intentionally harassing, capturing, or mishandling any sea creatures, will be ordered out of the water immediately. Immediate Termination & No Refunds: If a guest violates these environmental protection rules, their entire tour will be canceled on the spot. They will be barred from re-entering the water or boat, and the group will be escorted back to the pickup point. No refunds, credits, or adjustments will be issued under any circumstances, and the individual may be reported to local environmental authorities. Itinerary, Timing & Traffic Modifications This is a comprehensive road trip traversing multiple towns across Puerto Rico. While we follow a structured itinerary, the exact timing, order of stops, or duration at each location may be modified without prior notice due to island traffic delays, police roadblocks, community events, or localized weather. Because return times can fluctuate based on traffic conditions returning from the south coast, we strongly advise against booking this tour on the same night you have a departing flight. We are not responsible for missed flights or travel connections.

FAQs

Are there bathrooms on the boat? No, there are no restroom facilities aboard the private boat charter. Because the vessel does not have a bathroom, we strongly advise guests to plan ahead. To keep you comfortable, we make a dedicated restroom stop immediately before we board the boat and another one right after the water tour concludes. Is food included in the tour price? No, food and drinks are not included in the price of the tour. However, we have a seamless system in place to make sure you don't go hungry! How does ordering food work? Can we sit down at a restaurant? To maximize your time on the water, we do not have time to sit down and eat at a restaurant before boarding the boat. Instead, your tour guide will provide you with local menu options. You will place your order ahead of time, and all food will be packaged to-go and taken directly onto the boat with us. You’ll get to enjoy your meal right on the water or at the sandbar! Can we bring our own snacks or alcohol? Yes! You are welcome to bring your own snacks, water, or alcoholic beverages on the transport vehicle and the boat. We just ask that you avoid glass bottles if possible for safety on the boat deck, and please help us keep Puerto Rico clean by disposing of your trash properly. What happens if it’s cloudy or raining on the day of my tour? We operate rain or shine! Tropical showers are very common in Puerto Rico and usually pass quickly. The tour will proceed as scheduled unless the boat captain officially cancels the charter due to dangerous water conditions (like severe thunderstorms or high swells). Always prepare to get a little wet—it’s part of the island adventure! Do I have to be a strong swimmer to do the Bioluminescent Bay swim? You do not need to be an Olympic swimmer, but you must have basic swimming skills to enter the open water. We provide and require mandatory Coast Guard-approved life vests for everyone entering the water. If you are not comfortable swimming at night, you are more than welcome to stay safely on the boat—you can still see the water glow beautifully right from the deck! Can I capture the bioluminescence on my phone or camera? Bioluminescence is notoriously difficult to capture on standard smartphones because it requires advanced low-light or long-exposure settings. While you can try to take photos, we highly recommend living in the moment and enjoying the magic with your own eyes! Please remember that you are 100% responsible for keeping your devices safe from water and drops. Should I wear sunblock or bug spray? No. By the time we board the boat in the late afternoon, the sun is already setting, meaning sunblock is no longer necessary. Furthermore, sunblock and insect repellents are strictly prohibited if you plan on entering the Bioluminescent Bay. The chemical ingredients in these products are highly toxic to the delicate microorganisms (dinoflagellates) and drastically affect their ability to glow. To help us protect this rare ecosystem, please ensure your skin is free of these lotions before entering the water. Can I make this a private tour? Yes. Please contact us for pricing and arrangements.
