About this experience

Skip the crowds at Charco El Hippie and discover what most visitors never find — ancient Taíno petroglyphs and hidden waterfalls deep in the Puerto Rico jungle that few people ever reach. This small-group guided day trip takes you to the off-the-beaten-path south side of El Yunque along the Rio Blanco in Naguabo. Hotel pickup from San Juan or Fajardo in an air-conditioned vehicle — no stressful mountain driving, no lost GPS signal, no car break-in risk at the trailhead. Choose your adventure: Waterfall Pool — Swim in crystal-clear natural pools beneath the main waterfall. Relax, explore, and take in the jungle surroundings. Flip-flops and sandals OK. Petroglyphs & Falls — Full adventure with safety gear. Explore hidden caves and river rapids, hike through dense jungle to a hidden waterfall, and visit ancient Taíno petroglyphs. Please note that parts of the hike may be physically demanding, and participation in certain sections is at the guide’s discretion. Sneakers required. Every option ends with a stop at the Naguabo Malecón — a Caribbean boardwalk with 30+ fresh seafood spots and ocean views.

Itinerary

1. Local Bakery — Coffee & Pastries Puerto Rican café con leche and fresh-baked pastries at a local panadería. Not hotel breakfast — the real thing. 2. Charco El Hippie — Waterfalls, Pools & Caves (90 min) Crystal-clear swimming holes, waterfalls, and caves with Taíno petroglyphs on the south side of El Yunque. We handle the transportation — no rental car, no mountain road stress. 3. Daguao & Naguabo — The Town with Two Plazas The only municipality in Puerto Rico with two town plazas. The story starts in 1513 with Carib warriors and a burned settlement. Your guide brings the history to life. 4. Cayo Santiago — Monkey Island from Shore Coastal nature walk across from a 38-acre island home to 1,800 rhesus macaques since 1938. The oldest primate research station in the world — viewed from the beach. 5. Famous Malecón de Naguabo — Beachfront Seafood Over 30 oceanfront restaurants on one of Puerto Rico's most iconic boardwalks. Fishermen bring in the catch each morning. Order what you want, eat at your own pace. 6. Playa El Corcho — Mangroves & Moisés the Manatee Nature walk through a quiet mangrove bay — home to Moisés, a rescued manatee who has lived in these waters since 1995.

Highlights

We Handle the Hard Part Charco El Hippie is the #1 spot people try to reach on their own — and the #1 spot they give up on. Narrow mountain roads, no cell signal, limited parking. We drive you there, guide you in, and bring you back. No rental car stress, no wrong turns. Small Group, Big Difference Maximum 12 guests per tour. This isn't a 40-person bus hitting checkpoints. Your guide adjusts the pace, answers every question, and takes you to the spots that don't fit on a large group itinerary. Built for Your Second (or Third) Trip Already done El Yunque, Old San Juan, and the Bio Bay? This tour exists because we kept hearing the same question: "What else is there?" Naguabo is the answer — and nobody else is running this route. Eat Where Locals Eat The famous Malecón de Naguabo isn't in any resort concierge binder. Over 30 seafood restaurants on a Caribbean boardwalk where fishermen sell the morning catch by lunch. You pick the spot, order what you want, and take your time. Real Stories, Not a Script Taíno petroglyphs carved into river caves. A celebrity manatee who's lived in the same bay for 30 years. 1,800 monkeys on an island that changed how scientists understand trauma. Every stop on this tour has a story your guide actually knows — not a laminated card.
